Wooden candy canes ornaments

wooden candy canes ornaments

Description

Make a special holiday memory with the children in your life by crafting Christmas ornaments with them. Simple and inexpensive. Easy Kids Christmas craft! Complete crafting instructions with simple and lacy versions included.

Materials and Supplies

The exact supplies needed for each of these beaded ornaments is listed separately below.

Note: When making these ornaments I prefer to use the transparent color tri beads as the lights on the tree sparkle through them nicely but the solid colors are nice too. Experiment with different combinations red & clear, red & white, green & red etc.

Craft Instructions

Candy Cane Ornament - Simple Version

Craft Supplies:

  • 5 1/4" White Chenille stem (pipe cleaner)
  • 5" Piece of string or elastic thread
  • 16 Red Tri-beads
  • 16 Clear or white Tri-beads
  1. Fold over one end of the pipe cleaner so the beads won't slip off.
  2. Place 2 red beads on the pipe cleaner then 2 clear beads. Repeat until all 32 beads are on the pipe cleaner.
  3. Fold up the end of the pipe cleaner so the beads don't slide off.
  4. Bend the pipe cleaner into a candy cane shape.
  5. At the top of the candy cane, tie on a piece of elastic thread or string and knot the ends together. This will be used to hang your ornament.

Candy Cane Ornament - Lacy Version

Craft Supplies.

  • 5 1/4" White Chenille stem (pipe cleaner)
  • 5" Piece of string or elastic thread
  • 16 Red Tri-beads
  • 16 Clear or White Tri-beads
  • Approx 1 yard ВЅ" wide lace with a row of holes down the center. Gauge: 4 holes = 2"

you will need 33 holes.

The Lacy Candy Cane is made in the same way as the simple version with the following exceptions. After step 1, you slide the first hole of the lace onto the pipe cleaner. Then, after the addition of each bead, you put the pipe cleaner through the next hole in the lace before adding anymore beads.

This completed Candy Cane Ornament will have a totally different look than the simple version.

The lace I used alternates larger holes with smaller holes. I use only the larger holes to thread the pipe cleaner through.
