Graham & Christine Parsell - Harlextan Afghans - Roter Adler - Thoroton - Nottinghamshire NG13 9DS. United Kingdom. Afghan Hound Owners, Breeders, Exhibitors, Handlers & International Championship Show Judges of Afghan Hounds.

Roter Adler

Established in 1969, Harlextan Afghan Hounds have been located at 'Roter Adler' since 1982. Our first afghan hound was bought in 1969 from the 'Davlen' kennels of Ford & Barnes at Overseal, Staffordshire - in the UK.

A year later, our foundation bitches were bought from the 'Takabbor' kennels of Laurie & Barbara Etheridge and were mostly 'Carloway' and 'Horningsea' breeding lines. Over the next three decades we have bred selectively - and to find out a little of the details of these litters and their history connections - please click the Spotlight onto the 'About Us' page in the navigation column.

During the whole of this period we have been successfully involved in showing and breeding with our 'Harlextan' affix - achieving Top UK Afghan breeders in 1992 and producing numerous Kennel Club Stud Book entries and Champion Afghans along the way. Other landmarks have included top Afghan, Top Afghan brood bitch, top Afghan Veteran, plus many other awards too numerous to mention in these columns.

In the later years, we have both judged extensively at Specialty Afghan Championship Shows in the United Kingdom, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Scandinavia, Belgium, Germany and South Africa. Graham is currently president of the Birmingham Afghan Hound Club and also spent 16 years as a committee member of the Midland Afghan Hound Club - ten of them as Treasurer.

Our current show activities to date have

centered around two interesting bitches we imported to the UK - and recently their progeny. The first of these imported bitches came from the 'Dzum' kennels of Peter & Cathy Frost in Melbourne, Australia - called 'Dzum My Girl Lollipop at Harlextan (Imp)' - 2 CC's, 3 Res CC's, Crufts Minor Limit class winner 1998. The second of these bitches came from the 'Majic' kennels of Cindy Chandler. Osceola, USA - called 'Fabelhaft Could It B Majic at Harlextan (Imp) ' - 1 CC, 6 Res CC's, Res CC at Crufts 1998. ( Co bred with James Dalton - whose first afghan you might like to know was bought from Harlextan Afghans - called 'Harlextan Goldisox' JW . ). Both our imported bitches were brought in to the UK to extend our own gene pool and take us in new directions within the breed.

'Poppy' - our Dzum bitch gave birth to 4 males and 4 females on May 12th 2000 - sired by the glamorous 'UK Ch Meredith Biarritz at Miamarna' - 7 CC's - who is 75% Scandinavian bred. Her son, our own 'Harlextan Talk About Me' already has numerous Ch show wins and two Green Star majors - while his kennel sister 'Harlextan's a Touch of Frost' has a Res CC, Res Green Star and many first prize Ch show & open show wins.

'Majic' - our Fabelhaft bitch - gave birth to 5 males, 5 females, 5 blacks and 5 golds on March 30th 2001 - sired by the Swedish import 'UK Ch Mandinah Days of Thunder at Amudarya (Imp)' - 3 CC's, 7 Res CC's. The litter was a first for both sire and dam and 8 of the nine show home puppies have qualified for Crufts 2003. Our own 'Harlextan Majik Wanda' was best Afghan puppy at Crufts 2002 ( 21 puppies ), best puppy in show at the Southern Afghan Specialty Ch Show ( 49 puppies ), best Afghan puppy at LKA Ch show ( 36 puppies ), 2001. Her litter brother 'Harlextan Majik in Black' was best puppy in show at the Northern Afghan Specialty Ch show ( 21 puppies ), followed by other Ch show wins in junior dog. Other puppies in the litter have been equally successful.
